Kiln Formed Glass
by
Donna Thomson

I am a self taught kiln formed glass artist working with fused sheet glass, powders, stringers and frit.  I have been working with this incredibly versatile and fascinating material for the past ten years.  After years of learning and experimenting with different techniques and materials I now create simple designed pieces from my small sunroom studio in Perth, Scotland.

I get my inspiration from nature, landscapes and the changing colours of the seasons.  I enjoy working with clear fused glass and powders to create decorative bowls and tall slim vessels which form part of my 2022 collection.  The bowls and vessels flow and elongate through a ceramic drop mould producing sinuous patterns as the glass stretches and bends.  I finish the pieces using cold working techniques.  I also create window and wall art.

I recently visited a glass museum in Malaga (Museo del Vidrio Y Cristal de Malega) and was enthralled at the array  of colours and styles of the glass in this private collection many of which were created in Scotland and I hope to add my little contribution to the rich tradition of glass art in Scotland.
